Crewe getting friendly

Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson is eyeing more pre-season friendlies against Premier League opposition after confirming a home clash with Wigan. The Latics will visit the Alexandra Stadium on July 16, while newly-promoted Wolves and Birmingham are also on the radar along with a trip abroad. Thordarson told the club's official website: "We have already got Wigan lined up and now we are waiting on confirmation on dates from Wolves and Birmingham so that will be three attractive fixtures for our supporters. I'm sure those matches will generate a great atmosphere ahead of the new season. "I have several options on that both at home and abroad so we are looking into that. It would be good to go away for a week. "It allows the players to concentrate on football 24/7 and for them to work on their physical condition. Getting away breaks up the pre-season and gets the players away from the training ground for a bit. "It's always good for spirit and bonds the squad a little. It would be my first with Crewe and hopefully we can get something sorted but we'll have to see."
