Owen Coyle has completed his fourth signing of pre-season with the addition of Newcastle United's James Perch for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £500,000.

The 27 year old former Nottingham Forest player can operate in a number of positions but has most recently been featuring as a right back for the Magpies.

Understandably delighted to be joining the Latics promotion push and European adventure, Perch said: “It feels great to be here with a new challenge ahead of me, and I’m very excited at getting that started.

“The prospect of helping to get the team promoted was really appealing and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the boys and get started.

“I think Wigan Athletic is a great club and after speaking with the manager, his ambition and determination to take the club back to the Premier League where it belongs is something I wanted to be a part of.”

The combative defensive player featured 37 times for Newcastle last season and ironically made his league debut after coming through the Nottingham Forest academy at the DW Stadium back in 2003, aged just 17.
