Owen Coyle was quick after the match to state his intention to appeal the red card given to winger James McClean.

This has now been confirmed on the club's official website that an appeal will be lodged against the red card.

A club statement read: "Wigan Athletic have this morning confirmed to the Football Association that it intends to lodge an appeal against the decision to award a red card to winger James McClean in injury time of the match at Blackpool on Saturday.

The club has until 1.00pm tomorrow to lodge its submissions and a decision will be made prior to this weekend’s match at Charlton Athletic. Should the appeal be successful, he would be eligible to play, should it not, McClean will miss the match, along with the following two matches at home to Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town."   McClean was sent off for an altercation with Blackpool defender McKenzie who appeared to stamp on the Irish international but escaped punishment.
