Goalkeeper Scott Carson is focused on helping Wigan to a top-flight return this season, rather than resurrecting his England career in a World Cup year.
The 27-year-old won the most recent of his four England caps against Sweden in November 2011, but could enhance his hopes of an international return following his summer move to the DW Stadium following two years in Turkey with Bursapor.
Manchester City's Joe Hart, West Brom's Ben Foster and John Ruddy of Norwich are the goalkeepers in Roy Hodgson's squad for Wednesday's friendly with Scotland at Wembley and, although Carson is keen to return to the international fold, Wigan and the Sky Bet Championship are his focus.
"I want to get back into the squads, but I think it's going to be difficult," Carson said.
"There are a lot of keepers who have come in and out now. Fraser Forster's playing at Celtic, Alex McCarthy at Reading is in the same situation as me.
"This season I'm just concentrating on getting Wigan back in the Premier League and hopefully trying to have a good season."
Carson showed glimpses of his ability - including a good save from Danny Welbeck - during the 2-0 FA Community Shield loss to Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday.
The former Leeds, Liverpool and West Brom stopper felt Wigan matched United at times.
Next Wigan will next play Bournemouth as they bid to build on the 4-0 win at Barnsley on the opening weekend of the Championship season.
"It (the Community Shield) is going to stand us in good stead, but we know the Championship's totally different to this," Carson added.
