Cattermole complimentary about Wigan

Lee Cattermole has spoken kindly about Wigan Athletic ahead of Sunderland's visit to the DW Stadium this weekend. The 22 year old midfielder spent one season with the Latics after joining from Middlesbrough for £3.5 million. Just one season later and the combative midfielder was on the bus again as he followed Steve Bruce up to Sunderland for £6 million. In a bid to smooth over any potential problematic relationship with the Latics fans, Cattermole told the Sunderland official website: "I have not been back there yet, but Wigan was a great club for me. "They were a great stepping stone in between Middlesbrough and here. Everyone at the club was brilliant, from the chairman down. "Obviously the manager and the staff came here. I loved my time there and I have a lot of respect for them." It is probably fair to say the Latics got the best out the deal, making a cool £2.5 million profit on Cattermole who hasn't been able to replicate the form he displayed at the DW Stadium. What is for sure is that it will be an interesting battle between Cattermole and James McCarthy this weekend. CLICK HERE FOR THE MESSAGEBOARD
