Cardiff on verge of loan swoop for Wigan midfielder Ben Watson

Unsettled: Watson has struggled to secure a first team place since his move from Crystal Palace Championship leaders Cardiff are poised to snap up unsettled Wigan midfielder Ben Watson on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move. Flame-haired Watson, signed by the Latics from Crystal Palace for £2m in the  January window, is out of favour at Wigan and has failed to figure under new  boss Roberto Martinez. The 24-year-old, who racked up almost 200 league games with the Eagles, is also trailed by Middlesbrough and QPR. Yet Cardiff, who borrowed Manchester City striker Kelvin Etuhu until the end of the  campaign last week are determined to land powerful linkman Watson in time  for next Saturday's visit to Doncaster. Admitted chief Dave Jones: 'I will keep hounding the chairman to strengthen the squad and we are close to adding to the squad.'
