Bruce would back legal action

Steve Bruce has said that he would understand if Wigan chairman Dave Whelan was to change his mind and take action against West Ham over the Carlos Tevez affair.[LNB] The Tevez debate has reopened this week after the Hammers settled out of court with Sheffield United, with the sum believed to be in the region of £15million rising to a potential £25million.[LNB]The Latics, then managed by Paul Jewell, finished below the Hammers when Tevez's goals helped the London club survive relegation.[LNB]Although Wigan avoided the drop themselves they could pursue legal action over loss of prize money in terms of final league positioning.[LNB]"That's entirely up to the chairman," Bruce told Sky Sports News.[LNB]Backing"I wasn't here then but I knew he backed Sheffield United all the way with it because obviously he believed what went on was wrong."[LNB]But the former Birmingham boss is concerned that the whole affair shows no sign of ending.[LNB]"I think everybody will have a look at it when you see the colossal sums of money that's been settled now between West Ham and Sheffield," he added.[LNB]"For me that will just open up other doors and it looks like it has.[LNB]"I think there is a lot to be had when people are settling out of court for the amount of money that's been branded about, it's quite staggering.[LNB]"So you know I don't think it's run its course. There will be a few more coming out of the woodwork and West Ham are in for a rocky ride by the look of it.[LNB]"Where does it all end?"[LNB]Tigers clashThe former Manchester United skipper welcomes struggling Hull City to the JJB Stadium on Sunday for what he believes will be a tough game.[LNB]Bruce insists the furore surrounding the Tigers over the alleged Cesc Fabregas spitting incident could have a positive effect on the side in their bid to avoid the drop.[LNB]"He (Phil Brown) is fighting the world at the minute. The Premier League if you're not careful, can engross you," he explained.[LNB]"I'm sure Brownie is doing it to stoke up a few, I think there is a method there. It is an us against them mentality, trying to create that thing they had off at Bolton to a tee.[LNB]"We have all been there and done it. Whatever you have to do for your team, for your club to stay in the Premier League, you have to do it. There are huge financial implications so by hook or by crook you have to stay in it."[LNB]The Latics boss also questioned Brown's decision to hold a half-time team-talk out on the pitch after a particularly poor opening 45-minutes at Manchester City back in December.[LNB]"Maybe you do something to cause a stir, cause a fight. I have never seen that before, certainly I would go nowhere near it and I'm sure 99 per cent of managers would say the same thing," he argued.[LNB]"He must have had a method in his madness. You do anything to create a reaction or to try to get a response and sometimes we do silly things."[LNB]
