Bruce - We edged it

Wigan boss Steve Bruce feels that his side were good value for their win as they overcame Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.[LNB] An edge-of-the-box opener from Ben Watson and a fine solo effort from Charles N'Zogbia gave victory to the visitors, but it was certainly a hard-fought affair.[LNB]At times, Wigan had to rely on a dogged defensive display to ward off the threat of Sunderland, and Bruce feel that the willingness of his side to work hard for the win was key to breaking their barren spell in the Premier League.[LNB]"I think we deserved it, that's for sure," Bruce told Sky Sports News.[LNB]"I think both sets of players found it very difficult with the wind swirling and the bobbly pitches, but in total I thought we edged it.[LNB]"We've been playing very, very decently and haven't picked up the results, but today was our day and we're thankful for that."[LNB]Aiming upwardsThe Latics are now nine points clear of the relegation spots, and while the threat of the drop is still present, Bruce hopes that his charges can now look towards overhauling West Ham in seventh.[LNB]"I said all along that I think in this league you have to win 10 games and we've done that today. The time has come that we can begin to look the other way now, and why not?" he remarked.[LNB]"It's such an unforgiving league that if we'd have lost today then we'd have been looking over our shoulders.[LNB]"But we've got a victory today and now all of a sudden we're talking about the other end again."[LNB]
