Bruce Concerned By Missed Chances

Wigan manager Steve Bruce admits his side's inability to take chances is a concern - but insists their 1-0 victory over Hull was well deserved.[LNB]Ben Watson volleyed home in the 84th minute yesterday to win a Barclays Premier League match the Latics had dominated from the first minute.[LNB]Goalscoring has been a problem for Wigan - especially at home, with only 14 in 15 matches.[LNB]Mido and Hugo Rodallega both had a couple of good chances to open the scoring in the first half, while Charles N'Zogbia also tested goalkeeper Matt Duke with a long-range effort early on and substitute Amr Zaki headed against a post in the second half.[LNB]"I thought the first half was one-way traffic, to say the least," said Bruce.[LNB]"We have been at that stage many times - and the fear was that, in the Premier League, you don't get many more chances.[LNB]"We had umpteen in the first half, which we didn't take, and that causes you a concern.[LNB]"But they stuck at it and got their reward - because, for me, the better team won."[LNB]Bruce hailed match-winner Watson as a bargain January signing, after the midfielder joined from Crystal Palace in the transfer window.[LNB]"Ben scored his second goal in as many games and at £1.5million he looks a snip," added Bruce.[LNB]"(Palace chairman) Simon Jordan will be on the phone ranting and raving at me, saying I've done him."[LNB]Hull boss Phil Brown was annoyed with the way his side allowed a point to slip from their grasp.[LNB]"You can say it is cruel at the end of the day but our inexperience is something we have to learn from," he said.[LNB]"There was a point - or three - to be had. First half, we were disappointing.[LNB]"Second half, we got to grips with the game and slowly but surely were coming into it.[LNB]"One or two injuries conspired against us. But, with a makeshift defence and a makeshift midfield, we had one or two chances to win it.[LNB]"I'm disappointed with the manner in which we lost it."[LNB]
