Wigan Athletic fans all over the borough will be celebrating today as Maurice Lindsay has left the club to take up the post as chairman of local neighbours Preston North End. A double whammy for Wigan supporters as not only has Lindsay left, but he has joined Preston North End, who are a club struggling to make ends meet. Latics Chairman Dave Whelan said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maurice for the help he has given the club over the past five years, where his experience has proved a great asset to us."I would like to wish him, and Preston owner Trevor Hemmings all the very best for the future."Maurice Lindsay joined the Wigan Athletic board in 2005 and has represented the club in an official capacity ever since. He said: "It is with mixed feelings that I have decided to step down as a director of Wigan Athletic."I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club. I spoke to Dave Whelan about the suggestion that I take over as Chairman of PNE and as both Dave and myself are close friends of Trevor Hemmings, the owner of Preston, we both agreed that we should try and help the club, who have had a difficult time of late."I would like to thank Dave, Brenda Spencer and the other directors of Wigan Athletic, as well as the faithful fans, for making my time at the club so enjoyable."I wish the club every success possible in the future. I am sure they are moving in the right direction and are a real asset to the Barclays Premier League." CLICK HERE FOR THE MESSAGEBOARD
