Emmerson Boyce is hoping he can settle back into first team football quickly following his hamstring injury.

The 32 year old former Crystal Palace defender picked up the injury in the defeat against .

Now approaching fitness and nearing a return to first team action, Boyce is hoping for a swift return.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Boyce said: “It’s not quite as bad as we thought, so that’s a massive plus. It’s only a grade one, which is nowhere near as bad as the one I had last season when I was out for a couple of months.

“It’s just been a case now of nursing it and making sure everything is right before I try and do some proper running, to avoid making it worse.

“That’s what I did last time, and it ruled me out for a couple of months – so I wasn’t going to make that mistake again.”

The influential defender could make his return for this weekend's game with Huddersfield in the FA Cup or Martinez may choose to delay his return until the crucial league fixture with Reading hte following week.
