Boyce believes Latics need to improve

Following on from a fourth defeat in a row, experienced Emmerson Boyce has called for an improvement in performance for the next game with neighbours Bolton.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, the Barbadian international right back said: “We had a good game-plan and we went in confident of doing well in the game.

“We passed the ball quite well to start with, and it’s frustrating not to have got anything out of the game.

“But once the first goal went in, we didn’t really create too much to be honest, and we can’t really argue with the result.

“Performance-wise we have to do better, we need to work harder and enjoy coming to places like this.

“We probably made it too easy for them, and we need to make teams work harder to score their goals.

“In the second half we were chasing the game a little bit, but if we’d have got that equalising goal who knows what could have happened."

Boyce has been one of the more impressive performers for the Latics this season and his experience and pace have been vital at the back.

“We’ll go into the Bolton game full of confidence, and it’s a game we have to pick up something from," added Boyce.

“We feel we’re a better team than results have been showing, but at the end of the day the results are all that matters.

“We just need to find a way of grinding out a few results, because we don’t want it to go down to the last game of the season like last year.”

The Latics will be hopeful of beating Bolton as the Wanderers were thumped 5-1 at home by Chelsea over the weekend.
