Boselli set for second chance

With an outstanding goal scoring record in South America the least Mauro Boselli deserves with the Latics is a second chance. The 26 year old Argentine international striker struggled during his first season with the Latics as the direct and aggressive style of English football rendered him a spectator in most games. A six month loan spell with Genoa in Italy was ordered from January and that was blighted by a soft tissue injury. Boselli did manage two goals for the old Italian club, including a last minute strike which relegated Sampdoria. Latics boss Roberto Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post that he is set to have talks with the striker over the summer regarding his long term future. Given his stature and goal scoring record in South America, a second chance at the DW Stadium looks on the cards. Martinez said: "Mauro is back from Genoa and he needs a rest first of all. He is a proven goalscorer, though, and that will never change. They are the hardest players to find. "We'll sit down with him and find out how he found his time in Italy. Then we'll work out what the next step will be for all parties. "Mauro found it difficult at first, because he had a soft tissue injury and he didn't play much football. When he got fit, he scored two goals, but more significantly he became a hero with the locals while he was there. "The second goal came in the 96th minute against Sampdoria, which actually relegated Sampdoria. He probably didn't play as much as we planned, but now he's itching to prove he can still score goals."
