Following his goal for the reserves yerterday Mauro Boselli is set to be given increased first team opportunities by manager Roberto Martinez.

The Argentinian striker also scored in his recent appearance against Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup and won over a lot of supporters with his display.

With Fulham the visitors to the DW Stadium at the weekend, Martinez could well be tempted into playing Boselli and took time to praise the attitude of fromer Estudiantes man.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Martinez said: “What happened on Monday [scoring against Barnsley] will obviously act as a real confidence-booster for Mauro.

“But more than that it shows you the kind of attitude he continues to show behind the scenes. It would be all too easily for him to be disappointed, but all he is focused on is preparing himself if and when he is called upon.

“He knows he is going to get his chance, and he is determined to work as hard as he can in the meantime. Mauro came and asked me whether he could play in the Under-21s, which is a fantastic sign for me as a manager.”

Boselli faces tough competition for a first team place with both Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone performing well.
