Bordeaux deny Gers talks

Bordeaux have distanced themselves from a move for reported Wigan target Madjid Bougherra. The Rangers defender has been mooted for a switch to French champions Bordeaux, with a figure of £5.1million mentioned. Rangers are keen to keep the Algerian at Ibrox but would likely be unable to turn down a substantial offer from either France or England. Bougherra rejected a transfer to West Brom last summer in favour of a switch to Glasgow but could well be on the move again. Bordeaux, though, have for the moment at least distanced themselves from a possible approach for the former Charlton man. "Someone called me. I don't know if it was the agent of the player, the agent of the agent, or someone else," said Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud. "We have had no contact with Rangers. Maybe Laurent Blanc is interested but he hasn't told me."
