Black Retains Euro Dream

Wigan assistant manager Eric Black has admitted the Latics still have on eye on a European spot ahead of Sunday's match against Everton. The Latics are seven points behind David Moyes' side in the race for a UEFA Cup position and although Wigan boss Steve Bruce declared a month ago that he did not believe his team could make up the difference, Black has not given up on the dream himself. He said: "It is great for people to be talking about Wigan in terms of being in European contention, it is fabulous. "Eighteen months ago we could not have imagined that and it is a massive credit to everyone at the club. "The players and everybody who works here deserves praise for everything we have achieved because everybody has played the part." But Black also insisted that Wigan's outside ambitions for a European position will be extinguished completely if the JJB squad starts to relax now that they are consider "safe" from relegation with 41 points. He added: "We have to push on and try and achieve as much as we can. "Whether we stay in seventh position or not we will have to see but it is nice to have people speaking about Wigan and Europe."
