All I want for Christmas is playing time - Caldwell

Wigan captain Gary Caldwell is desperate for a return to action after a "nightmare" season with injuries. The Scotland international had operations on both hips in the summer, delaying his start to the campaign in the process. He has since struggled with several niggles, meaning he has not played since November 13, but he feels ready to return having featured for the reserves last week "It has been a nightmare," he told Latics Player. "Obviously getting the hips done was important for me in terms of prolonging my career but on the back of that there have been little niggles which I have picked up. "When I come back I am going to be hungry to do well. The Christmas period is the one where people can move up or down and hopefully we will be one of the teams moving in the right direction. "It can have a big effect on your season. If we can pick up a few wins then we will be in a good position come the new year."
