Ali calls for calm

After a run of eight straight defeats the Latics are rooted to the bottom of the league, however goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi is calling for calm.

The last time Al-Habsi and his teammates tasted victory was back in August following the 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers. Ironically the only victory of the season so far.

The Omani international goalkeeper was speaking to the Wigan Evening Post as he said: “We know we’re in a really, really bad position, but now is the time for us to stand together as a team and show what we’re made of.

“What can I say? We played another decent game on Saturday but, in the end, we didn’t get the rewards that our play deserved.

“Again we created some good chances, but we just need to find that finishing touch to turn the chances into goals.

“But that’s football, and we go again next weekend determined to get that all-important win."

The Latics face a crucial trip to Molineux this weekend to face Mick McCarthy's Wolves side who have also been stuttering in recent weeks.

“The Wolves game is massive but they’re all massive games when you’re bottom of the league like we are," added Al-Habsi.

“The dressing room is united, and we will carry on fighting. It’s hard to know how to get out of this situation, because we’re already working extremely hard on the training ground.

“Hopefully the gaffer will be able to get us out of it, and I’m sure he can.”

Gary Caldwell is suspended for the trip to the Midlands after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Fulham at the weekend.

Emmerson Boyce is being tipped to replace Caldwell at the heart of the defence with Ronnie Stam coming in at full back.
