Zola backs Parker for England
20 Mar 2009 - 16:35:34
West Ham United boss Gianfranco Zola believes Scott Parker deserves to be handed an England recall.
The 28-year-old former Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and Newcastle United midfielder has represented his country on three occasions, the last coming in the Euro 2008 qualifying defeat in Croatia in October 2006.
Zola believes Parker is currently playing the best football of his career though, saying: "Scott Parker has been outstanding this year.
"He deserves to be back in the England squad. His energy and quality have been outstanding, his passing - everything.
"He is a complete midfielder because he can produce quality but works very hard defensively. I believe in his position he is the best in this country.
"Our players are in good form and there is a chance for a few players to be in the (England) squad. If my players are selected they will do well for England."
