Zola backs Green for recall

West Ham United boss Gianfranco Zola believes an England recall is just around the corner for goalkeeper Robert Green.

Green, 28, was again in impressive form as the Hammers held league leaders Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield on Monday evening.

The former Norwich City keeper has not made an England appearance since Fabio Capello's appointment as manager last year, but Zola is confident that an international opportunity is on the horizon for the Hammers number one.

Green's international career has failed to recover since a late injury cost him his place in the 2006 World Cup squad.

"I have told Robert that if he continues to perform the way he is, he will be back in the England squad," said the Italian.

"The England manager Capello knows what is the right thing to do and Green knows he must continue to perform every week like he is now and then he will be rewarded.

"I am delighted with Robert. He is looking very comfortable now. He was getting some stick but now he is getting the rewards he deserves.

"He is working very hard during the week and I am very pleased with him."
