    Winger extends Iron deal

    16 Jan 2008 - 13:25:36

West Ham United winger Matthew Etherington has signed a new contract extension to keep him at Upton Park until the summer of 2012.

The 26-year-old's current deal runs until the end of next season, but Etherington has been rewarded for a series of impressive displays in recent times.

He told the club's official website: "I am delighted to have signed a new contract and committed my future to West Ham.

"I have always been happy here since the day I arrived and I look forward to the next four-and-a-half years.

"Behind Christian Dailly I am the longest-serving player at the club which I am very proud of.

"There have been a lot of ups and downs both personally and on the pitch, but the club have stood by me as have the fans and for that I will always be grateful.

"That is why I have committed my future here."

Etherington joined the Hammers in the summer of 2003 from Tottenham Hotspur, having also had spells with Peterborough United and Bradford City.

The left-winger has scored 16 goals in 176 appearances for the Iron to date, helping the club reach the FA Cup final in May 2006.
