Upson stays loyal to Hammers
16 Nov 2009 - 09:13:29
Matthew Upson has no plans to leave West Ham United even though Gianfranco Zola's side look set to endure a difficult season battling to avoid relegation.
The 30-year-old former Arsenal and Birmingham City defender has been at Upton Park since January 2007 when he moved to the Hammers in a £6million deal and continues to be involved in the England set-up.
He said: "Losing at West Ham isn't affecting my performance.
You take pride in that no matter where the team is.
"It isn't easy and it probably is better to be somewhere where you're winning matches, but West Ham is where I'm at and I have a job to do for them.
"I don't think I've made that many mistakes individually this season but we've conceded a lot of goals. That's a problem and something we need to get better at.
"I won't let that affect my international aspirations. If something is put in front of me, and I have to make a decision about my future, then I will.
"At the moment it isn't something I'm thinking about. I'm a West Ham player. Unless something happens, I'm fully concentrated on them."
