Unhappy Mascherano wants out
04 Jan 2007 - 09:32:31
Unhappy Argentina international Javier Mascherano has told West Ham he wants to leave the struggling club.
The 22-year-old World Cup star arrived at Upton Park in a fanfare of publicity in August alongside international team-mate Carlos Tevez.
But Mascherano has made just seven appearances for the Hammers and hasn't featured since November.
The former River Plate and Corinthians midfielder has been linked with transfer window exits to Italian sides Juventus and Palermo.
Liverpool and Spanish club Real Zaragoza have also been mentioned as possible destinations.
"I must get out of here," Mascherano is quoted as saying.
"I cannot stay at West Ham any more like this, without playing. At my age my game will stagnate if I don't play.
"I came to England to do well but I have not had the opportunities necessary to show what I can do.
"If I am not playing in the West Ham team I will have to leave to continue my career with another team."
