Poor run concerns Green
14 Dec 2009 - 10:03:21
Goalkeeper Robert Green has admitted that West Ham United desperately need to pick up Premier League points to prevent a drama turning into a crisis.
The Hammers dropped into the relegation places after losing 1-0 to Birmingham City on Saturday.
Gianfranco Zola's have picked up just 14 points from the 48 on offer during the opening half of the season and Green has admitted that Tuesday's meeting with fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers is a must-win game.
"I'm glad we've got a game at Bolton so soon," said Green. "Wolves won at Spurs, Bolton got a draw with Man City. We need to get some points.
"We have to go to Bolton, grit our teeth, and get a positive result. These are important times for us. We have to start picking up points and go on a good run.
"We've had a couple of defeats in a row and we're now looking to bounce back. Against Birmingham we showed spirit after going down to ten men and going a goal down.
"But I thought we missed a clinical finish. It was one of those games - end-to-end but the quality wasn't quite there.
"It sounds stupid but it was either going to be decided by an odd goal or it was going to be a draw. When you're down there, you get kicked."
