Omission hurts Green
08 Oct 2007 - 09:38:04
West Ham United goalkeeper Robert Green cannot understand why he is being overlooked for England duty as the 27-year-old believes he is in the best form of his life.
The former Norwich City shot-stopper has been left out of Steve McClaren's 27-man squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia, with Paul Robinson, David James and Scott Carson all picked ahead of him.
"It's not my job to call myself up," a frustrated Green told the Daily Telegraph.
"But in the summer I was in the squad and told my position was there to lose - and I lost it through not playing a game.
"I've been playing as well as I've done in my career. David James was picked on good form and I lost my place on good form.
"In terms of choice, I'm obviously quite low down the pecking order. You try and work logic and sense into things, and the only thing you can say is they don't regard me as good enough.
"No one has rung me to say I wasn't in the squad, and no one's rung me to say sorry."
Green has won one cap for his country - coming on as a substitute in the friendly international win against Colombia in May 2005.
