    New deal for Harewood

    14 Sep 2006 - 13:41:27

West Ham United have moved to reassure striker Marlon Harewood about his future by handing him an improved contract.

Harewood netted 16 times to finish as the Hammers' top scorer last term, but boss Alan Pardew opted to sign forwards Carlos Tevez and Carlton Cole during the summer transfer window.

Despite the new arrivals Pardew still sees Harewood as an important member of his first-team squad and the former Nottingham Forest star was happy to put pen to paper on the new deal, which will keep him at Upton Park until the summer of 2010.

"I am enjoying playing football for West Ham and this is where I want to stay," the 27-year-old told the club's official website.

"I have had three good seasons at the club and I hope to have many more to come.

"The future is looking good here and I want to be part of it, this is a great club with a great bunch of lads and a great team spirit that I want to remain involved in."

Back-up goalkeeper Jimmy Walker has also signed a one-year extension to his contract and is now committed to West Ham until the end of next season.
