Neill reveals Hammers talks

West Ham United captain Lucas Neill has revealed he has opened negotiations over a new contract with the club.

The 30-year-old defender joined the Hammers from Blackburn Rovers in January 2007 after choosing Upton Park ahead of a move to Liverpool.

Neill has made over 50 appearances for the London club, but was linked with a move to Turkish side Galatasaray earlier in the summer.

However, the Australia international has revealed he has held preliminary discussions with the Hammers over extending his stay.

"Officially I'm on my last year of my contract," he said.

"I've had preliminary talks and there's been interest from elsewhere.

"But I'm captain of West Ham and very proud of that and I don't see it being any different this season."
