Mido confirms Hammers deal

Egypt striker Mido has confirmed he has joined West Ham United on a short-term contract.

The 26-year-old frontman has joined the Premier League strugglers from Middlesbrough after cutting short his loan spell at Egyptian side El Zamalek.

Mido is the second striker signed by the Hammers on transfer deadline day following the previous capture of Benni McCarthy from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

"I am here to play football and to prove a point, definitely. I am very happy to be here," said Mido, who left Boro following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

"I had to sacrifice some things but this is a great club and I am sure I will do well here, hopefully."

Mido's nomadic career has also taken him to Tottenham and Wigan Athletic in England plus Ajax, AS Roma, Marseille and Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile, the Hammers remain in talks with Brazilian striker Ilan following his recent release from French club St Etienne.
