Magnusson: Time to move on
10 May 2007 - 08:29:55
Chairman Eggert Magnusson believes it is "time to draw a line under" the increasingly bitter saga surrounding the Premier League's decision not to dock West Ham points for fielding ineligible players.
The Hammers could escape relegation on the final day of the season after successfully avoiding a points deduction despite being found guilty of breaching Premier League rules regarding the signings of Argentinian duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
Wigan Athletic, Sheffield United and a host of other top-flight clubs have already voiced their displeasure at the league's ruling and the possibility of a legal challenge has cast a dark cloud over the last round of Premiership fixtures this weekend.
But Magnusson, who took over the Hammers in November and inherited the problem from the previous regime, has called for an end to the threat of legal action.
"I think it is now time to draw a line under this matter," he said.
"The fine imposed on us was very significant, but we accept that mistakes were made and it is now time to move on.
"Our intention as a club is to be totally focused on Sunday's game (at Manchester United).
"We know that our fate, like every other club, will be decided where it should be on the pitch."
