Javier makes mental move

Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano says he has already mentally detached himself from West Ham United, despite still not having been cleared to join Liverpool.

The 22-year-old midfielder made just seven appearances for the Hammers after joining the club - along with Carlos Tevez - from Brazilian outfit Corinthians earlier this season.

Now Mascherano is awaiting Premier League clearance to begin a new chapter of his career at Anfield, having said his goodbyes to Upton Park.

He told The Sun: "I have disconnected myself from West Ham and signed a contract with Liverpool.

"It's now just up to the Premier League to authorise me to play, something I believe should happen because it was they who made the appeal to FIFA to allow me to move clubs.

"I hope the situation is resolved as soon as possible."

"Rafa Benitez asked me if I wanted to stay in England or if I'd prefer to go elsewhere. When I told him I wanted to play this football and prove that I can adapt to it, he fought to sign me."
