Irons attempt to raise funds
05 Feb 2010 - 14:56:52
West Ham have revealed plans to raise up to £40million from 'professional investors' in a bid to sure up the club's finances.
The Hammers were taken over by David Sullivan and David Gold last month after the former Birmingham City owners acquired a controlling 50 per cent stake in the Upton Park club.
West Ham's future had been uncertain following the financial problems of their Icelandic owners during recent times.
Sullivan and Gold's successful bid valued the club at £105million and the duo - assisted by former Birmingham chief executive Karren Brady - have now set about attempting to safeguard the future of the east London club.
"Although this fund-raising is initially aimed at professional investors, I would love to be able to bring in our loyal and fantastic fan base as investors further down the line so that they can share in the club's great future, on and off the pitch," explained Brady.
"This is an option which we have seriously under review."
Sullivan added: "These are exciting times for the club and David Gold and I have a clear vision to take us forward.
"We are looking for people to share in the adventure. This is a big challenge but we are going to make West Ham great again."
