Inter step up Tevez chase
13 Jun 2007 - 08:56:34
Internazionale president and owner Massimo Moratti has confirmed that the Serie A champions are keen to sign West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez before the start of next season.
Tevez said on Tuesday that he would welcome the opportunity to move to Inter where he would link up with Argentinian colleagues Hernan Crespo, Julio Cruz, Walter Samuel, Esteban Cambiasso, Javier Zanetti, Nicolas Burdisso, Mariano Gonzalez and Santiago Solari.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked with Tevez but Moratti said: "It's true, he's a player we like a lot.
"He has qualities and character. It's what we need."
Tevez, who is currently preparing for this month's Copa America in Venezuela, had earlier said: "I know Inter is interested in me.
"It would be nice to play in Italy, especially in a team that has so many Argentinians.
"There will be some meetings, some discussions, but I really don't know anything official yet."
The 23-year-old helped the Hammers avoid relegation from the Premiership last term, but appears certain to leave Upton Park this summer after spending less than 12 months in east London.
