Hitzlsperger hammers home Irons winner

ew signing Thomas Hitzlsperger fired West Ham to a 1-0 win over Panathinaikos in a friendly in Austria on Friday night. The fixture was played in difficult conditions with the winner coming three minutes before half-time. German midfielder Hitzlsperger scored with a trademark powerful shot as he arrowed home a free-kick. Hitzlsperger joined the Hammers from Lazio this summer as part of new manager Avram Grant's bid to turn the club's fortunes around. The Hammers are in action again next week when they tackle MK Dons and Ipswich Town on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.
