    Hammers wait on Behrami

    02 Mar 2009 - 07:47:28

West Ham United midfielder Valon Behrami could have to endure a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury in Sunday's 1-0 victory against Manchester City.

The Switzerland international injured his left knee just before half-time and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance after being carried off on a stretcher.

An MRI scan confirmed that Behrami has suffered no fracture or break but further tests will be required to assess the extent of the injury.

Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola said after the game: "Hopefully it isn't going to be too bad as the boy is a really important player for us - on the pitch and off it as well.

"I think his studs got caught and he fell on his knee. He was in pain so he needed some oxygen.

"Hopefully we're going to have him back soon but it's too early for us to assess him right now."
