Hammers reject Spurs' Parker bid

28 Jul 2010 - 10:05:01

West Ham United have warned potential suitors that Scott Parker is not for sale after rejecting an approach for the midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Hammers rejected a bid from their Premier League rivals on Tuesday and chairman David Sullivan has moved swiftly to reiterate his previous claim that the England international is not for sale at any price.

"I made a promise that I would not sell Scott and I will not, for any amount of money, break that promise to the West Ham supporters," he told the club's official website.

"Scott is not for sale at any price, to anyone. West Ham supporters, for far too long, have had owners that sell their best players and promise one thing and do another.

"This is a new era. We are building a bigger, better West Ham and when we make a promise, we honour it."

Meanwhile, Sullivan has revealed that negotiations with Parker's representatives over a new contract have taken place.

The 29-year-old was the one notable omission when Sullivan claimed the entire first-team squad, which under-performed and narrowly avoided relegation last season, was up for sale earlier in the summer.

The former Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and Newcastle United midfielder joined the Hammers in June 2007 and has made 83 appearances for the east London club.
