Hammers hope for Collison
12 Mar 2009 - 12:57:45
West Ham United are hopeful that Jack Collison can return from injury before the end of the season after scans revealed the midfielder dislocated his kneecap last week.
Collison, 20, is facing up to seven weeks on the sidelines after being stretchered off in the 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on March 4.
"Jack Collison has been ruled out for six to seven weeks with a dislocated kneecap," read a club statement.
"Collison underwent an arthroscopy to assess and deal with the injury on Tuesday and is recovering well."
The recently-capped Wales international has scored three goals in 16 Premier League appearances for the Hammers this season.
The news on Collison comes on the heels of the Hammers confirming that fellow midfielder Valon Behrami will be out of action for six months with cruciate knee ligament damage.
