Hammers fail with Bent bid
30 Jan 2007 - 13:52:05
Reports suggest that West Ham United have had an £18million offer for Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent rejected by the Addicks.
According to Sky Sports News, the offer was rejected at a Charlton board meeting on Tuesday morning.
The Hammers are now managed by the former chief at The Valley, Alan Curbishley, and he is desperate to bolster his misfiring strikeforce as he attempts to lead his new club away from the relegation zone.
The 22-year-old former Ipswich Town striker Bent scored 20 goals last season but has been out of action since December after suffering an ankle injury.
"Darren isn't going anywhere," said Charlton chairman Richard Murray on Monday.
"We've seen another batch of press speculation over the weekend, and the club has been inundated with journalists wanting to know how much we want and where he's going.
"Well, let's make this nice and simple - he's not going anywhere."
