Hammers cling to Young hope
17 Jan 2007 - 09:36:03
West Ham United have not given up hope of signing Watford's highly-rated forward Ashley Young in this month's transfer window.
The Hornets confirmed on Tuesday that they had accepted a £9.65million offer for Young from another Premiership club, but that the England Under-21 international had decided against the transfer.
But Hammers chairman Eggert Magnusson told the Daily Telegraph: "The deal is still very much alive.
"I don't want players who clearly don't want to play for us, but we're working on it and are hopeful."
Watford chairman Graham Simpson had earlier told his club's official website: "We've stated many times over, that we have no need or desire to sell Ashley Young - or any of our players for that matter.
"However, having given due consideration to all of the factors, I felt that this offer was right for the club."
