Hammers bring in Quashie
09 Jan 2007 - 07:41:56
Premiership strugglers West Ham United have signed Scotland international midfielder Nigel Quashie from West Bromwich Albion for £1.5mllion.
The 28-year-old has signed a deal running until the summer of 2010 at Upton Park, ending a 12-month stay at The Hawthorns.
Quashie started his career with Queens Park Rangers, before moving on to Nottingham Forest and then Portsmouth.
He left Pompey after just five months, signing for South Coast rivals Southampton in January 2005, but he was soon on the move to join Albion.
West Ham manager Alan Curbishley told the club's official website: "We've signed Nigel because he is an experienced player who will add competition to our central midfield positions.
"Nigel comes in knowing full well the position we are in and he is confident and convinced that we will be able to get out of the bottom three.
"I want to reiterate that new players coming in doesn't mean I've got to let people go."
Quashie has also won 14 caps for Scotland, having played for England's Under-21 side earlier on in his career.
