Hammers await Cole scans
15 Feb 2009 - 10:25:09
West Ham United boss Gianfranco Zola is keeping his fingers crossed that Carlton Cole did not suffer a serious ankle injury during Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup fifth round draw with Middlesbrough.
The in-form England striker limped out of the game just after the half-hour mark and Zola is anxiously awaiting the results of a scan.
"We don't know how bad it is yet," he said. "He is going to have an X-ray in the next 24 hours and hopefully it will be just a twist."
Meanwhile, Zola admitted he was relieved to finally see his side take one of their chances after Herita Ilunga's last-minute header set-up a replay.
"We had so many chances that I was afraid we weren't going to score," added the Italian.
"We didn't deserve to lose and a draw may have been fair.
"A replay is not great news but we want to go through. It will be tougher but we want to go through."
"It's a good lesson for us. Three months ago we would have lost that game, so I am pleased because the players showed we did not want to lose."
