Hammers allay Upson fears
17 Mar 2009 - 07:34:46
West Ham United boss Gianfranco Zola has allayed fears that Matthew Upson suffered a serious injury during Monday's goalless draw with West Bromwich Albion.
Upson was stretchered off in the 29th minute of the Upton Park stalemate with a nasty looking calf injury.
The England defender suffered a serious calf injury shortly after joining the Hammers two years ago, but Zola doesn't expect Upson to be sidelined with his latest problem for a significant amount of time.
"It shouldn't be too bad," he said. "It's a problem with his calf.
"It shouldn't be a big setback."
Meanwhile with a host of other first-team players missing through injury, Zola admitted he was pleased with the point.
Victory over the Premier League's bottom club would have further consolidated seventh place for the Hammers, but Zola was content with a share of the spoils.
He added: "We missed a few important players and West Brom played well.
"They had very good chances and they could have gone in front, which is why I'm saying this was a very good point for our team."
