Hammers after toon defender

Shane Ferguson is wanted by Championship clubs West Ham United and Barnsley.

The Northern Ireland international is wanted on loan by Sam Allardyce, while Barnsley are also keen on keeping their relationship with the Magpies in operation having already borrowed Nile Ranger earlier this term.

Kevin Nolan has given Fat Sam a glowing reference on the talents of 20-year-old Fergie, after working with the youngster last season when the Derry lad burst on to the scene under Chris Hughton.

Ferguson has just recovered from a thigh injury sustained while on international duty with the Northern Ireland Under-21s but is now fully fit for selection.
