Grant tells Upson to commit
09 Jul 2010 - 09:29:39
New manager Avram Grant has told Matthew Upson to commit to West Ham United or leave Upton Park.
Upson, 31, has one-year left on his contract and was linked with moves to several Premier League clubs before heading off to the World Cup with England.
Grant is hoping to keep the former Arsenal and Birmingham City defender at Upton Park but only if he is ready to commit to the club.
"We'll do everything to keep Upson, but West Ham fans deserve players who want to play for the club," he told the Daily Mirror.
"I want players like that because I think we'll have a great future. It will be good for us and good for the players. Of course Matthew is one of them."
Upson has made 111 first-team appearances for the Hammers after arriving from Birmingham in January 2007.
