Grant: Parker staying with Hammers
25 Aug 2010 - 16:35:46
West Ham United manager Avram Grant expects coveted midfielder Scott Parker to sign a new contract.
Parker has been linked with a move away from Upton Park throughout the summer, with Tottenham mentioned as potential suitors.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who scored a last-minute winner in Tuesday's 1-0 Carling Cup second-round victory over Oxford United, was offered a new deal by the Hammers last month and Grant fully expects to keep hold of the England midfielder.
"Scott Parker is very important," said Grant. "He is a very good player who is always fighting and giving everything.
"I am confident that I want him in the team. He is going to sign a new contract but normally I do not want to be involved in the money situation.
"As far as I know Scott is happy here. We want to develop young players but we need experienced players who are very positive.
"Scott is very important for us because he is one of the experienced players who have a good influence on the others."
Meanwhile, the Hammers are reported to be on the verge of signing Internazionale striker Victor Obinha.
