Freddie a happy Hammer
30 Jul 2007 - 09:02:23
West Ham United new boy Freddie Ljungberg was a happy man after netting his first goal for the club in the 3-1 pre-season friendly win at Southend United.
The former Arsenal midfielder helped the Hammers recover from a loss at MK Dons in his first appearance and is looking forward to the fresh challenge at Upton Park.
He told the club's official website: "I had only played 20 minutes with Arsenal in pre-season before I came here, so it has been tough to play two games in four days and train as well.
"I am getting stronger each day and there is more to come from me.
"We have two weeks until the start of the new season and it is all about working hard towards the game against Manchester City."
Meanwhile, Hammers boss Alan Curbishley has rejected criticism of his club's major moves into the transfer market this summer.
He told the Sunday Express: "I don't quite understand the criticism that gets levelled at us.
"It's always 'money-bags West Ham', but if you care to analyse it, Craig Bellamy at £7.5million isn't a bad deal. Scott Parker at £7million isn't bad. I don't think we've done too badly.
"We've spent £22 million but we've taken £21 million in and everyone seems to forget that."
