Eggert vows to keep Tevez
23 May 2007 - 17:33:32
West Ham United chairman Eggert Magnusson has not given up hope of Carlos Tevez still being at Upton Park next season.
The 23-year-old Argentinian was instrumental in the club's successful battle to avoid relegation but has already been linked with moves to a host of sides throughout Europe.
Tevez has hinted that he would welcome a summer transfer but Magnusson is keen to keep him in east London.
He told the club's official website: "There is bound to be a lot of speculation over the summer about our playing squad. It is normal in a transfer window.
"We are ambitious for this club and what we can achieve next season. We want to strengthen the squad and to build on the positives of the 2006-07 season.
"We will work hard over the summer to prepare for next season and that includes keeping our best players who want to play for us.
"There will be a particular focus on Carlos Tevez and I want him to stay. He is a West Ham player, registered with and contracted to the club with three years remaining on a four-year contract."
Earlier in the week Tevez had told The Sun: "I want to join one of Europe's big clubs, that's what I've talked to my agents about.
"I don't know about interest from Real Madrid but it makes me happy such an important club is interested in me. But at the moment there still isn't a concrete offer.
"People at West Ham were incredible with me and I'll never forget that. But of course I would like to get a chance at a big club."
