Eggert admits Tevez doubts
06 May 2007 - 12:16:27
West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson wants to keep Carlos Tevez at Upton Park, but has admitted there are a number of obstacles he must overcome if the Hammers are to retain the services of the Argentina striker.
Tevez looks set to be at the centre of a storm after a number of clubs met to discuss their unhappiness with the Premier League's decision to fine West Ham £5.5million for breaking rules regarding player ineligibility.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has spoken out about his club's unhappiness that the Hammers were not docked points following the acquisition of Tevez and Javier Mascherano last summer.
Tevez was cleared to play in the last two games of the Premiership season and netted twice in Saturday's 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.
Magnusson is hoping to keep Tevez at the club beyond the end of his loan stay but admits he is unsure over the player's long-term future.
"I would like to see him at West Ham for the next few seasons, but there are a lot of things that have to be resolved before that happens," he said on BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme.
"I wouldn't be surprised if there is interest from other clubs, so we'll have to see.
"I don't know at this point in time, we'll see when the season ends. He's a great lad, a great footballer who loves his football and likes playing for West Ham."
Meanwhile, Magnusson has refused to be drawn into responding to the threat of legal action concerning the decision not to dock the club points for breaching Premier League rules.
"I leave that to the Premier League," said Magnusson.
"I can understand it in a way but I cannot understand going everyday to the press and saying this and that.
"If they are gong to make a legal challenge they should come out when they decide to do so. That's my opinion."
