Davenport ends Hammers spell
17 Mar 2010 - 16:39:02
Former Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur defender Calum Davenport has left West Ham United by mutual consent.
The 27-year-old, who moved to Upton Park in January 2007, was under contract until the end of this season, but is believed to have had the last few weeks of his deal paid up by the Hammers.
"West Ham United and Calum Davenport today agreed terms to mutually terminate his contract allowing him the opportunity to concentrate on securing a new club for next season," said a brief statement from the Premier League strugglers.
"Both parties have agreed that they do not wish to comment further on this matter."
Last year, Davenport suffered serious leg injuries in a complicated episode that led to him being charged with assaulting his sister Cara.
He suffered serious knife wounds to both legs and spent six days in intensive care but is provisionally due in court on 2 August to answer the assault charge.
Davnport started only 12 Premier League games for West Ham and spent the second half of last season on loan with Sunderland, featuring in eight matches for the Wearsiders.
