Curbs unsure over Reo-Coker
07 Jun 2007 - 14:51:47
West Ham United boss Alan Curbishley claims he has heard nothing about the future of unsettled midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.
The Hammers captain has asked to leave Upton Park after becoming disillusioned during a difficult last season at the club.
Aston Villa have reportedly tabled a £7million bid for the England Under-21 skipper and the player's agent claims his client would be happy to move to the Midlands, but Curbishley is adamant he hasn't received any official approaches.
"He is away with the (England) under-21s at the moment with two of our other boys," he revealed.
"I have heard nothing in respect of any activity. There are lots of rumours about our club at the moment.
"We can't go around answering it all. It has been indicated but, as of now, he is still a West Ham player."
Meanwhile, injured striker Dean Ashton believes he will be ready to start pre-season training with his team-mates.
The Hammers hitman has been sidelined since suffering a badly broken ankle on England duty last August, but is looking forward to returning next season.
"My rehab is going well," he said. "I am more than hopeful I will start the season well.
"Last season was the hardest time of my career, to see the club go through so many ups and downs. But I was delighted it ended well.
"I want to prove I am not a forgotten man and show how good I am. I've had a little break so I am more than happy to work all the way through to pre-season and beyond.
"It is hard work but I am trying to get back to full fitness."
