Curbs agrees compensation

West Ham United have finally agreed a compensation package with former manager Alan Curbishley, the League Managers' Association has confirmed.

Curbishley left the Upton Park club in September 2008 after his bosses sanctioned the moves of Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney, who left for Sunderland, without his knowledge.

The Managers' Arbitration Tribunal upheld Curbishley's right to have sole authority in relation to the sale and purchase of players.

With this compromised, it was agreed that West Ham were guilty of a fundamental breach of contract and Curbishley was entitled to resign.

Speaking after the ruling, Curbishley said: "It's taken many months to conclude this case but I'm proud of my record at West Ham which included a win ratio of 40 per cent, after initially keeping the club in the Premier League and a tenth-place finish in my only full season in charge.

"I'd like to thank (co-owner) David Sullivan for acting quickly and concluding the settlement since his arrival at West Ham. I'm now looking forward to the future and getting back into football management."

Curbishley has taken charge of almost 800 games in his managerial career with Charlton Athletic and the Hammers.

He joined West Ham in December 2006 and kept them in the Premier League that season thanks to a final day 1-0 win at Manchester United.
